Counselors Corner

Mission

The counseling department at Cesar Chavez Elementary works as a team with staff, students, families, and the community.  We collaborate to create and maintain a safe learning environment that promotes and supports healthy interactions through social emotional learning and academic success for all students now, in college, career, and beyond.

Vision

Our Vision is to empower students with self-awareness in how their actions impact those around them as they develop empathy, compassion, and confidence as life-long learners, critical thinkers, and leaders in their communities.

We have two counselors at Cesar Chavez. Ms. Lupold and Ms. Guerrero. Both are great resources for your student and your family.

Ms. Lupold's Bio:

Hello! My name is Ann Lupold. I am so fortunate to be your school counselor. It is my privilege to serve the students of Cesar Chavez! I believe in that our students should be supported socially and, emotionally while encouraging their academic growth.

Professionally, my goal is to help students with growth mindset, social skills, and healthy interpersonal relationships while presenting them with career and college goals. I am very excited to witness our students blossom into citizens of their community.

Ms. Guerrero's Bio:

This is my 7th year as an elementary school counselor and my first year at Cesar Chavez Elementary. I grew up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas as the youngest of 6 children. I earned my bachelor's degree from BYU and my master's from UTA. Outside of my work life, I love to spend time with my family, play board/card games, dance, read, and do yard work. My husband and I have 3 children and just recently added a son-in-law who fits in perfectly.

I believe that building healthy relationships is a foundational key to success. And, I am dedicated to working with students, parents, staff, and community members to see the “whole child” as we help students with their social, emotional, and academic needs.

Resources in Response to the Robb Elementary School Shooting

In response to the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde Texas, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network has developed resources to help children, families, educators, and communities navigate what they are seeing and hearing, acknowledge their feelings, and find ways to cope together. These resources include:

Psychological First Aid

The NCTSN also has resources for responders on Psychological First Aid (PFA; En Español). PFA is an early intervention to support children, adolescents, adults, and families impacted by these types of events. PFA Mobile and the PFA Wallet Card (En Español) provide a quick reminder of the core actions. The PFA online training course is also available on the NCTSN Learning Center.

Additional PFA resources for schools include:

From the National Mass Violence and Victimization Resource Center

From the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress at the Uniformed Services University

Disaster Helpline

SAMHSA has a Disaster Distress Helpline – call or text 1-800-985-5990 (for Spanish, press “2”) to be connected to a trained counselor 24/7/365.
